FAQS
General
What is BIAS X?
How does it work?
BIAS X combines a professional-grade sound engine with Agentic AI, enabling two core workflows:
- Text-to-Tone: Describe the tone you want, and the AI builds it automatically.
- Music-to-Tone: Upload a clip of a guitar tone, and BIAS X recreates it instantly.
You can refine your tone using AI suggestions or full manual control—moving gear anywhere in the signal chain, tweaking amp stages, or customizing effects.
What is BIAS X and how is it different from BIAS FX 2?
BIAS X is Positive Grid’s next-generation guitar multi-effects software, designed from the ground up to deliver better tone, smarter workflow, and a more modern experience. Compared to BIAS FX 2, it features:
- A completely new tone engine with AI-powered amp and effect modeling
- All-New Cabinet Simulation: Developed by Positive Grid engineers and in partnership with Spectre Digital, featuring high-fidelity IRs of legendary cabs and mics.
- A redesigned immersive UI, optimized for speed and creative flow
- Built-in Agentic AI that helps you build, match, and refine tones in seconds
BIAS FX 2 was built around traditional tone modeling with static signal chains. BIAS X introduces dynamic AI-powered tone construction, a broader range of gear in one package, and intelligent features that reduce the time between inspiration and output.
What’s new about the BIAS X tone engine?
BIAS X features an entirely rebuilt sound engine that uses advanced AI-driven modeling to replicate real-world gear behavior with greater realism and depth. It includes:
- AI-powered tube simulation
Simulates true tube dynamics—sag, response, and harmonic behavior—for more natural feel and responsiveness. - AI-driven bias-point shifting
Captures subtle amp behavior changes under different voltages and gain levels, enhancing touch sensitivity. - Preamp, Power Amp, and Tone Stack AI modeling
Each section of the amp circuit has been modeled separately and intelligently, resulting in a much more authentic tone stack interaction and nuanced amp behavior. - All-new cab simulation
Developed with world-class tone experts, this system uses real-world capture methods to deliver greater realism, clarity, and dimension. This isn’t just another IR loader—it’s a complete rebuild of how cabinet tone is created and rendered.
What is Agentic AI in BIAS X?
Agentic AI is your personal tone assistant built directly into BIAS X. It speeds up the workflow for pros and opens creative doors for everyone.
Agentic AI supports two major features:
- Conversational AI
Describe what you want—“Give me a fuzzed-out surf lead” or “Make this rhythm tone tighter”—and the AI builds or tweaks a preset in real time, selecting gear and adjusting parameters automatically. It can also give you feedback about your tone and tweak it with recommendations. - Music-To-Tone
Drop in a guitar track or full song, and the AI analyzes the tone and reconstructs a matching preset. This is ideal for producers or players wanting to replicate recorded tones fast.
How much gear is included with BIAS X?
BIAS X includes 33 amp models, 25 cabs, and 63 effects. The gear spans classic, boutique, and modern sounds across multiple genres, giving users a versatile all-in-one solution.
Does it support dual-amp setups or advanced routing?
Yes. BIAS X supports dual-amp configurations, stereo rigs, and parallel processing chains—perfect for custom and complex tone builds.
Can I use third-party IRs?
Yes. You can load your own impulse responses to further shape your cabinet sound.
Does BIAS X support MIDI?
No, BIAS X does not support MIDI at the moment
Is ToneCloud still available in BIAS X?
ToneCloud is not part of BIAS X.
Can I transfer presets from BIAS FX 2 to BIAS X?
Presets from BIAS FX 2 are not directly transferable into BIAS X due to the new engine architecture and feature set.
However, you can still use both side by side. If you have a preset in BIAS FX 2 you love, export a short audio clip of it and upload it to Audio to Preset in BIAS X—letting the AI rebuild that tone instantly using the new engine. This approach offers higher fidelity than preset import and better utilizes the new AI engine.
Can I use my BIAS FX 2 expansion packs (e.g., Hendrix pack) in BIAS X?
Currently, BIAS X does not support expansion packs from BIAS FX 2, including the Hendrix pack. BIAS X introduces a redesigned sound engine and gear ecosystem, which may not be compatible with legacy content from FX2. Please stay tuned for future updates regarding compatibility.
Which plugin formats are supported?
- macOS: Audio Units (AU), VST3, AAX
- Windows: VST3, AAX
- Note: BIAS X does not support VST2.
Is it Apple Silicon native?

Can I use it with bass or acoustic guitars?

Do I need to know a lot about gear to use BIAS X?
No—but if you do, you’ll love what’s under the hood. BIAS X is built for flexibility at every level: you can get great tones fast using AI tools, or take full manual control to fine-tune every detail. Move gear freely anywhere in the signal chain, shape amp behavior stage-by-stage, and design complex dual-amp or stereo setups. Whether you’re moving fast or going deep, BIAS X supports your workflow.
